Park, Calif. – Growing concern over the consequences of
financial illiteracy in America prompted Treasury Secretary
Lawrence Summers to launch National Partners for Financial
Empowerment (NPFE) in April. Noverus Inc., an established
national financial services corporation, recently accepted
Secretary Summers’ invitation to join the nonpartisan
coalition. According
to NPFE spokespersons, too many Americans of all ages do not
have the basic skills to manage their finances. Lack of
financial education has led to record bankruptcies, too little
money for retirement, high personal debt levels, no access to
credit, and abusive lending practices. A
leader in the personal financial education and management
arena, Noverus will work with other coalition members to meet
what Treasury representatives describe as “the challenge of
making financial literacy a fundamental life skill for every

workshops on best practices for addressing such issues as
bringing low-income individuals into the mainstream; and
discussions with the credit card industry, small business,
retirement counselors, and schools about their roles in
personal financial literacy training. In
accepting the NPFE invitation, Noverus CEO Val Sabuco stated,
